Our members are non-tenured, independent firms and we are proud that 50% are second and third generation family owned. Historically, we have taken BC's softwood lumber raw material and further manufactured it into higher value-added products. As times change, we now represent independent sawmills and custom cutters of round logs. The IWPA member companies have the insight and flexibility to react to changing supply, regulatory and trade challenges as they occur.
We are the companies that process BC's softwood resource. We are the value-added companies that kiln dry, plane, chop and mould the wood into finished products. We are proud that this manufacturing, employment and investment happens at home in BC and is made up of over 60 small and medium size companies that operate primarily on the Southwest coast of BC.
The IWPA represents the member companies on issues involving local, regional and provincial governments. The Association keeps members up to speed on trade issues from the US, EU and around the world. When new programs emerge from our Federal government, the IWPA is the conduit that informs and explains them to the member companies. Our members are a college of entrepreneurial firms that have navigated many different challenges and managed to survive and prosper.
Value-added manufacturers can only thrive with reliable access to fibre and residuals. We advocate for fibre policy that doesn't leave them last in line.
Every step of further processing means more jobs, more skills and more dollars kept in British Columbian communities, not exported as raw material.
Secondary manufacturing is constant problem-solving. We help members share knowledge, adopt new processes and reach new markets.
Representing members on fibre access, market conditions, trade and tariffs with government and industry.
Bringing processors together to share knowledge, suppliers, buyers and best practices.
Keeping members informed on the market shifts, regulations and opportunities that affect their business.
